 2022 Preview

Clarke County completed the 2021 season with a 13-2 record. Last year Clarke County captured the region one title and a number one seed in the Class 2A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-0 record. It was the first region championship for the Bulldogs since the 2007 season. The Bulldogs reeled off five straight playoff wins to claim the Class 2A State Championship by defeating Cleveland at the Alabama Super Seven 49-41 in Birmingham.

No team at Clarke County ever won more games in a season than the thirteen victories last year. The 485 points scored by the Bulldogs last year were a team record in a single season. The Bulldogs hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Luker saw improvement as they won thirteen games following a 8-3 record in 2020.

The defense was very stingy last season as Clarke County ranked 36th in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 14.7 points a game.

Over the past two seasons the Bulldogs have gone 21-5 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. Since 2010, Clarke County has gone a combined 71-63. Their 53.0% winning percentage ranks 22nd in Class 2A over the past twelve seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Clarke County has managed to compile a record of 155-120. Their 56.0% winning percentage ranks 12th in Class 2A and 132nd in the AHSAA.

The Bulldogs are led by head coach Stacy Luker who is entering his sixth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 37-23 over the past five seasons at Clarke County. Under his direction the Bulldogs have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have won one region crown with Coach Luker. Coach Luker led Sweet Water to a state championship in 2021.

Coach Luker's overall record as a head football coach in twenty-six season stands at 225-96 (70.1%). His 225 wins rank 10th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Luker's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of twenty-one times and won eleven region championships. He has a 51-15 record in the playoffs during his career. The playoff victories rank with the best among active coaches. Coach Luker won five state championships prior to arriving at Clarke County, the last coming in 2010 at Sweet Water.

Likely the best team in Clarke County won thirteen games and capped off the season with their first ever state championship. Look for them to be in the hunt all season long.

The Clarke County Bulldogs will play in Class 2A region one during the 2022 season.

Overall, the region is among the weakest in the state. Qualifying for one of the playoffs spots could be a little easier.

The Bulldogs enter the 2022 season having won 6 straight region games. They have won 7 straight games on their home turf at H.G. Prim Stadium. The Bulldogs enter the season with expectations of not only a region title but reaching the state championship game. They are considered one the favorites in region one and should be a team in the thick of the hunt to represent the South in the Class 2A Super Seven come December.

The Bulldogs open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Leroy on Thursday, August 25 at Bobby Farish Field at Palmer Stadium. Last year the Leroy Bears finished with an overall record of 2-8 and in sixth place in Class 2A region one. The Bears closed out the regular season with a loss to Citronelle by a score of 6-2.

Clarke County and Leroy have met a total of 70 times on the football field. The Bulldogs have a 36-30-4 record against the Bears. They last met in 2021 with Clarke County winning by a score of 20-14.

Clarke County returns 2A All-State Senior offensive lineman JaMichael Pugh. He was named to the first team last season. The Bulldogs also return Senior offensive lineman Javontae Bradley. He was named to the honorable mention team. The Bulldogs also return Senior athlete Pace Young. He was named to the first team.
